 | Charles Dowd, class of 1966, died recently |
 Anonymous writes " Charles Dowd, a member of Gunn's first graduating class, died of pancreatic cancer on March 23, 2010. For 35 years he was a professor of music at the University of Oregon in Eugene. He also was a founding member of the Eugene Symphony Orchestra.
His musical specialty was percussion and he played the tympani in the Eugene Orchestra. Every quarter his students gave a public percussion concert which became noted for creativity and just plain fun. Dowd claimed he began as a rock and roll drummer in the Bay area. He was highly respected by his students, fellow musicians, and patrons of music.
At a Eugene Symphony concert just a few days prior to his death he was honored by a tribute. Four of his former students performed a percussion work dedicated to Dowd.
Dowd is survived by his musician wife and two sons, plus two by a former marriage.
